Platform 5 worked closely with Manchester’s MOSI to produce feasibility design options for a new Special Exhibitions Gallery in MOSI’s historic Grade I listed 1830 warehouse building. The exhibition space will house innovative temporary exhibitions both from MOSI’s own collections and institutions from around the UK and globally.

The gallery will be located in the brick arches under the existing railway line which runs through the site, creating a series of interlinked flexible gallery spaces alongside a newly created double height space in the 1830 warehouse. Alterations to one of the warehouse bays in the 1980s allows the proposed double height spaces to be created without impacting on the original historic fabric of the grade I listed warehouse.

To improve visibility and movement around the site a new gallery entrance pavilion is proposed as a considered contemporary intervention to this historic site showcasing the ambitions of this innovative Manchester institution.
