Double planning win for Platform 5 Architects and Richard Hopkinson Architects
Richard Hopkinson Architects, working with Platform 5 and Deloittes have won planning consent for two major schemes for LeSoCo, a further education college, on a prominent site in The Cut, Southwark.
Detailed permission has been granted for the second phase of the college’s large-scale regeneration project, supported by outline permission for a housing development. The £40 million project reflects LeSoCo’s commercial drive and ambition to raise the bar in respect of quality for the benefit of the wider community.
The college redevelopment features a new six-storey building, which will contain a series of high quality education and training spaces focusing on the media and creative industries. This building connects to the existing buildings – currently being refurbished and remodelled as the first phase of the project. The completed scheme will feature a new central atrium at the heart of the campus - a transparent core containing a new reception area, café and flexible open learning space. A new approach to teaching and learning is embodied in the layout. Large terraces provide recreational and relaxation spaces for staff and students and training opportunities.
