Platform 5 Architects are delighted to share that Backwater has received an Honourable Mention at the Galvanizing Awards (GAGA) 2017.

Galvanizers Association (GA) represents the hot dip galvanizing industry in UK and Ireland. It provides Marketing, Technical and Environmental services for this growing industry.

The Galvanizers Association Galvanizing Awards (GAGAs) is a free, annual competition which has been recognising the use and diversity of galvanizing since 1994.

The judges recognised the cleverness of the use of galvinized steel ground beams elevated above the high water mark, creating a raft that projects over the water's edge. The solution of founding the building on a greed of driven steel piles 10 m into the chalk rock layer supporting the grillage of the aforementioned beams limited the use of concrete and reduced the time on site required to form the substructure.

Galvinized steel was specified for the subframe as it could be quickly erected whilst ensuring the durability of the structure that will be submerged at high river levels.
