Planning secured for historic office refurbishment in City of London

Platform 5 Architects secured planning consent for The Brand Exchange on Birchin Lane in the City of London including the refurbishment and alteration of a Grade II listed building. The project includes a light touch refurbishment and upgrade to a former insurance company headquarters, originally built in 1911 in the neoclassical style.
A key objective was to maximise the available space within the existing envelope. The ground floor will contain a large open plan lounge area and meeting room, with large open plan offices that can be easily reconfigured for hot desk working, conferences or other events. The top floor will contain a large meeting area, with a further meeting room, kitchens and WCs located in the reconfigured basement.
Platform 5 Architects’ refurbishment will create a bright and lively environment, blending surviving historic features such as restored timber panelling and newly revealed moulded ceilings with contemporary fixtures and furniture. The end result will be an extremely attractive suite of spaces for meeting, working and doing business, in the spirit of the 17th century coffee houses that previously stood on Birchin Lane and sparked the City’s emergence as a global business centre.
